Earth Friendly Products/Tip #18

        Do you use pesticides or products that have lots of chemicals in them? Well now its time to stop! Why, well lets start here, using the pesticides can kill your plants and be bad for all of us on the Earth. The products with chemicals also hurt the air we breathe. Composting/tip 17



                              

            Do you have a composting bin? Well if not it’s about time to get one!  Why you ask, well because it’s good for the Earth and makes great soil for your plants. You can compost:

      Apple cores

      Egg shells

      Rotten fruit

      Banana peels

      Coffee filters

      Tea bags

      Used paper napkins                  

          and many, many more items! To compost and make your own soil, all you need is a bucket. You mix around all the things you put in your bin about 5-8 times a day. Then when it’s all decomposed you’ll have nice soil that won’t cost you nearly as much as if you were to go to the store and buy a huge bag of soil that your plants might not even like! Another great thing to do with your compost is put worms in it.

Wear Trade Wear/tip 16

#16. Do you throw away your old clothes after you’ve grown out of the? Guess what you shouldn’t. But you should donate the close to good will, places like good will so people that are not able to pay the normal price and you should always look in to urban ministries which is a place were people without money can go get food and clothes. If you are in high school and you just went to the  prom and you do not want to wear the same thing, start a group where you will switch prom dresses and other clothes.

#15. Do you pack a lunch for school or work, well I bet you do!? Instead of using a new baggie that can’t be reused or recycled, change it to a nice reusable container that you will use everyday. If you do this you will cut down the waste that goes in to the landfill and that will help not fill up the landfill.

DON'T KILL MOTHER NATURE/ tip 14

#14. Do you ever without noticing grab a plant and break a part of it off? You shouldn’t. If you don’t understand why you shouldn’t, here is a better way to explain this. Would you like it if someone tried to break off your limb? If you would not (you probably wouldn’t) like that then don’t do the same thing to a plant.

DRINK, SLURP REUSE/ tip 13

#13. Do you use cups and bottles that can’t be reused? Well it’s time to STOP (for those of you that do)!!!!! Instead of using those plastic/paper bottles/cups use a reusable bottle everywhere you go and don’t have to worry about throwing it away! Go on, switch to a reusable bottle today!

FANTASTIC CLOTHES LINES/ tip 12

#12. Do you dry your clothes in a dryer? Well forget those old dryers and get a clothes line. You hang the line across two trees and take clothespins and pin your clothes up on the line. Let them dry in the sun instead of wasting all of the heat and electricity that a modern dryer would use. There are many, many types of  clothes lines. Pick yours out today.

ANIMAL WASTE/ tip 11

#11. Do you have a dog, horse, cow, or  any animal that goes to the bathroom outside? Well do you pick up after them? If you don’t now is the time to start. Because if you leave the poop outside and it started to rain, it would wash down in the waterways, and kill all of the living things in that waterway. Now that you know this when you take your dog for a walk always bring a baggie, or a pooper scooper to clean up after him/her.

PLANT YOUR TREE TODAY/ tip 10

 

#10. Have you ever wanted to plant a tree? If you do, go out today, and plant your own tree! By planting a tree you can help the world a little more. Guess what if you recycle a six foot stack of newspapers you could save a 40 foot tree! Now isn’t that a good use of recycling. Please go out right now and plant a tree, if you do make sure you take really good care of it.

BRING IN THE BUFFERS/ tip 9

#9. Do you live up hill down by the water or just anywhere and you want o plant fruit, veggies, or flowers? Buffers are your answer for not getting soil in or around your local water sources. There are three types of buffers, filter buffers, which provides permeate vegetation along a pond, river, or any other water way. There are also forest buffers which sit along a fast river. Last but not least are contour buffers that are mainly used at farms, they are made out of stripe of permanent sod stuck in-between rows of crops.

MAGICAL MANURE/ tip 8

#8. Do you think manure is bad for the earth, well you are sort of right! But manure is good for your plants, it helps them grow strong, and healthy. so you should put it in your garden instead of fertilizer.But your right a little on how it is bad, it’s bad because it gets out into rivers and oceans and kills the plants and animals in the rivers and the oceans thanks for helping!

LIGHTS OFF!/ tip 7

#7. Do you use lights every day, well I bet you , instead of leaving them on all day try if you can to turn to turn them off. If you want to be an energy saving freak (which you should) switch to a CFL energy star light bulb. (They are the curly ones!) Thank you for turning them all lights off when you are not using them.

SCOOTING ON OUR WAY/ tip 6

#6. Do you use a car every where you go? I bet you didn’t know this but you don’t have to! Let’s say you are going to a friend’s house down the street, use a bike or walk instead of jumping in your car. It may not save time but it will save money on gas and also save the earth by not polluting.

DOWN IT GOES/ tip 5

#5. Do you know that flushing is one of the biggest wastes of water every time you flush you waste 1.6 gallons of water for a modern toilet. But an older toilet will use 3 gallons. A way you can use less water is this simple methied if it’s yellow leave it MELLOW, if it’s brown flush it DOWN! But after a week please flush it down or there will be stains in your toilet.

GREEN LEAN DRIVING MACHINE/ tip 4

Prius

#4. Are you 16 and need a car? Are you an adult and you need a new car? If you do, you should probably get a hybrid car. A hybrid car can save gas mileage, and that will save you money that you would use for gas, but it will also save the earth because they are usually 20-35% more efficient. That would mean you use 20-35% less pollution. If you need a little car a Prius would be a good car for you, but there are many other smart choices. But you might also be looking for a big car, a highlander would be a good choice for you, there are also many other good choices for big cars.

REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE /tip 3

#3. Have you ever thrown away something that could be recycled? If you see something like litter or trash flying around PICK IT UP! If it is a metal can, a piece of paper, cardboard, or it is a plastic container labeled with the numbers at the bottom of the container, depending on your area the number would be different, if it is not one of the objects we listed then it can not be recycled. Try to use reusable container for all of the things you use. PLEASE RECYCLE!

#2. Have you ever seen some litter in a river or have you seen someone drop trash out of their car? Do not litter and if you see litter pick it up even if it not yours. The trash can be eaten by animals and then they will die and that will cause more deaths because of the hole in the food chain.

WATERS RUNNING OUT!/ tip 1

#1. Do you leave the water on when you are shaving or brushing your teeth? What about washing your hands? Please turn off the water when you are not using it so you can use it when you really need it! Do you know that only 3% of water on the planet is fresh water and only 1.4%percent of it is melted, so we must use as little as possible.
